Registration for UVA’s Three-Minute Thesis is now open

March 8, 2019 by zrb8mf@virginia.edu

This year UVA will host our 7th Annual Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition on Wednesday, April 10 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in Nau Hall. This is an incredible opportunity for PhD students to synthesize their research into a narrative that engages academics beyond their field and members of the general public. The 3MT encourages students to reflect on the essential components of their research and how their results impact the world.

What is the 3MT? A competition that provides doctoral students who have passed their qualifying exams an opportunity to present their research to general audiences in three minutes with a single static PowerPoint slide.

What are the benefits to the participants? The 3MT creates an opportunity for every participant to improve the following skills: public speaking, presenting complex information, situating their research in the context of the field, and networking with peers from other disciplines. There are also cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rdplace, as well as a People’s Choice Award.

How to register? Click here to register. Registration will remain open until March 20. Preliminary rounds are scheduled to take place the week of March 25.
