Trainees Secure External Funding

Several trainees in Pharmacology labs were successful in securing external funding – here’s a list of funding we know about…be sure to congratulate these students!

Tyler Basting (Guyenet lab), American Heart Association (AHA) pre-doctoral award: Arterial pressure regulation by ventrolateral medulla glutamatergic neurons in conscious rats: an optogenetic study. (start date: 7/1/2015, entering second year of funding)

Sarah Gray (E. Barrett lab), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) F31: Pathways of Insulin Transport across the Blood-Brain Barrier (start date: 9/1/2015, entering second year of funding); previously funded by an AHA award (6/2014-9/2015) to investigate the same topic.

Ben Holloway (Guyenet lab), American Heart Association (AHA) pre-doctoral award: Non-Adrenergic, Glutamatergic, Bulbpospinal Neurons of the Rostroventrolateral Medulla Regulate Resting Blood Pressure (start date: 7/1/2016)

Alex Keller (Isakson lab), American Heart Association (AHA) pre-doctoral award: Mechanisms of ATP release from Pannexin 1 in Red Blood Cells in Response to Hypoxia (start date: 7/1/2016)

Steven Keller (Isakson lab), American Heart Association (AHA) pre-doctoral award: Increasing NO via an alpha globin mimetic peptide as a treatment for sickle cell induced pulmonary hypertension (start date: 7/1/2016)

Kelley McQueeney (Lazo lab), National Cancer Institute (NCI) F31: The Role of PTP4A3 in Colorectal Tumor Formation and Progression (start date: 4-1/2016)

Vlad Serbulea (Leitinger lab), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) F31: The Role of Oxidized Phospholipids in Macrophage Bioenergetics and Inflammation (start date: 7/1/2016)
